A brand new promotional and visual video file for NieR: Automata Version 1.1a reveal that Lily an android resistance fighter, who appears in the stage play YoRHa and manga adaptation will appear in the animated series. She will be voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki.
NieR: Automata Version 1.1a is scheduled to launch on January 20, 2023. It is based on the open world action RPG NieR: Automata, which features an android team fighting to save Earth from an alien army in the distant future. The stage play in which Lily performs in is an early prequel to the game that focuses on the events that occurred during the Pearl Harbor Descent.
According to Nier creator Yoko Taro, the "Ver 1.1a" affix in the title of the anime refers to the initial title as "a story we wrote to be a game therefore copying it as it is would not be a good plot for an anime. Therefore, I proposed the possibility of changing things up."
NieR: Automata was developed by PlatinumGames and released by Square Enix as a sequel to the 2010's Nier which was released thousands of years prior to the events in Automata. Similar to the first game that was created by the now defunct Cavia, NieR: Automata combined third-person hack-and-slash with shoot-em up and side-scrolling.
Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls assistant director) is the director of NieR: Automata Version 1.1a and has co-series composer credits alongside Yoko Taro.
